Personal Attention
Plain and Simple Amish Furniture provides a comfortable and generally relaxed atmosphere for you to browse, lounge, and shop for heirloom quality, solid hardwood furniture produced in the Midwest. Three of the store's owners work closely with the operations of the store, assuring you of knowledgeable and flexible staff with which to fill your furniture needs. Our owners and sales staff are available to you in the store and by phone, email, and home visits as needed to consult with you and determine how your desires can best be fulfilled.
Customizing and Design development
Do you see a piece of furniture that you want but it just will not quite fit in that space in your home you are shopping for? Have you seen a piece of furniture somewhere else that you can't find now or is no longer available? Do you have an idea for a piece of furniture that is unique in size or function?
Our staff can assist you with each of these problems. Many catalogue pieces can be custom modified by the original producers. If not, we have other producers who specialize in custom and one of a kind furniture.
One of our staff members will sit down with and discuss your particular needs and desires. If it is to modify a standard piece, often our sales persons can write up the changes in design and confirm with a producer if the changes can be easily made.
For custom pieces, built-in units, and complex designs, Josh will meet with you, discuss your ideas, make a drawing for you to review and approve. Once approved, we can get a price quote from a producer for you so you can make your decision.
Delivery
Plain and Simple Amish Furniture can arrange for delivery of all your purchases from the store showroom and from the producers. Standard delivery includes delivery to the final placement of the furniture in your home. For locations in Cook, DuPage, and Lake Counties, the delivery fee is 5% of the purchase price, $45 minimum. For locations in McHenry, Kane, and Will Counties and beyond, additional charges may be required.
Curbside delivery is also possible for a reduced fee.
Some pieces of furniture, such as beds and tables, require assembly. An assembly charge of $20.00 is added for such pieces.
Long distance shipping options are also available. Pack-Ship USA handles most of these deliveries for us.

Care and Maintenance of Your Fine Furniture Finish
Most of our finishers use Conversion Varnish unless the customer asks for something different. Conversion Varnish is the most commonly used finish in the high-end furniture market. When properly applied and cared for, the beauty of your furniture's finish will be enjoyed for many generations. Conversion Varnish has excellent resistance to foods, beverages and common household chemicals. However, to maintain the beautiful appearance of your furniture a few care guidelines must be followed.
-
Limit direct sunlight exposure as much as possible. Over exposure can cause a change in the appearance of your furniture's finish.
-
Excessive use of furniture polish can cause moisture from a beverage can or glass to leave a milky white ring on the surface of the wood.
-
Do not use cleaners containing bleach.
-
Avoid cleaners with abrasives, as they may scratch the finish. They often have sand in them
-
Do not allow cleaners containing ammonia to come in contact with your furniture finish. Ammonia may turn oak black and painted pieces yellow.
-
Excessive exposure to smoke will cause the finish to yellow.
-
Dyes and inks may discolor the finish. The ink and dyes from newsprint and plastic bags may penetrate into the finish when moist.
-
Conversion Varnish offers a very hard mar-resistant surface, but like any finish may still be scratched or damaged if not cared for properly.
-
It should be noted that your new conversion finish does not achieve its maximum performance properties for at least 30 days from the time it was finished. This is based on maintaining a temperature of at least 70 degrees.
Cleaning Guidelines
Generally a soft damp cloth followed by a dry cloth is all you need to clean the finish. If a cleaner is required, use only a very mild soap (such as Murphy's Oil Soap) and wipe dry. A high quality furniture polish may be used occasionally. Apply with a soft cloth following manufacturer instructions.
